What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a condition in which your breathing stops for at least 10 seconds during your sleep. There are two common types of sleep apnea: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and central sleep apnea (CSA).

Obstructive sleep apnea happens when your throat muscles relax, which forces your airway to narrow or close when you breathe. On the other hand, central sleep apnea is a signaling issue where your brain fails to deliver signals to your breathing muscles.

How Do You Deep Clean Your CPAP Machine?
Make sure to read the directions for cleaning instructions with your machine. Typically, it's not that hard to deep clean your CPAP machine. These are some common steps to clean your machine manually:

1. Always make sure that you have unplugged your CPAP machine from the electrical outlet, or disassemble the battery if it is integrated.

2. Detach the mask from the tubing, then remove the tubing and the water chamber from the CPAP machine. If you find disassembling your CPAP machine a bit of a hassle, there is a way to clean the machine without removing its parts.

3. Fill a washbasin or a small sink with warm, soapy water. You can now submerge the mask, tubing, and other connectors in the water for at least 30 minutes. There are also mask cleaning wipes for a quick daily clean-up.

4. Rinse the parts to remove any soap in them, then allow them to air dry.

5. If the external surfaces of your CPAP machine have accumulated dust, you could use a soft cloth to clean them. When every part is dry, you are now ready to reassemble your CPAP machine.
